BROUTIN
Ère isouienne an 52 : un musicien lettriste, Gérard Broutin CD
(Tochnit Aleph TA124)
Edition of 300 copies in six-panel digipak.

First ever release of the text-sound pieces by French lettrist artists Gérard-Philippe Broutin (b. 1948). Broutin studied Art History at the University of Paris and the École du Louvre. Alongside other artists such as Maurice Lemaître, Roland Sabatier, Alain Satié, François Poyet or Jean-Pierre Gillard in particular, Broutin meets Isidore Isou in 1968 and from then on participates in most of the events and literary exhibitions of the lettrist movement.
His first pictorial works were shown in March 1969, during the exhibition "Today Lettrism and Hypergraphy" at Galerie Stadler in Paris. The scattered elements that he proposes - lines of writing, hieroglyphic ideograms, empty compartments, precisely drawn - evolve towards the creation of a personal alphabet, made of notional signs, mainly animals and plants, which will be his particular mark.
The remarkable lettrist text-sound pieces contained on this CD were written during the early 1970’s and recorded and broadcasted at Radio France in September 1976, with introductory texts by Jean-Pierre Gillard.

GERHARD RÜHM
Diotima hat ihre Lektüre gewechselt CD
(Tochnit Aleph TA155)
Edition of 300 copies in six-panel digipak.

"the 1971 detective audio play "Diotima hat ihre Lektüre gewechselt" goes back to the records of a murder trial that took place around the turn of the 20th century: two music students were killed upon their own request – because of a love affair – by their piano teacher, who afterwards lacked the courage to shoot himself too, as planned. the court records are read out by two girls in alternation. the text is accompanied by background noise that the listeners can understand in relation to the described events but which liberates itself from the narration and suggests its own dimension of events. this creates some confusion in the listeners, who constantly remain unsure whether to relate the accompanying noises to the text, or whether to picture something entirely different. at the same time, the imagination is stimulated and the “detective intuition” aroused, so it might be called a detective play in that sense also. in any case – at least by the time when one narrator has “exchanged her reading matter” with the other – this much should be clear: the audio play not only records past events but also documents an internal process, running parallel, between the two narrators – of an obviously erotic nature.(...)

MICHAEL BARTHEL
Halber Pogo CD
(Tochnit Aleph TA159)
Edition of 300 copies in six-panel digipak.

Second full-lenght release by German sound-poet and writer Michael Barthel on Tochnit Aleph. Recorded April 2018 straight to tape without overdubs. Raw, unsettling, and poetically incorrect! "HALBER POGO (half a pogo) is a 60 minute recording in which scripted text-pieces are recited from memory. The selection of the pieces is left up to the moment, as much as how much content of each piece is remembered; along with their actually determined pronounciation - that often buggers off. This inaccuracy, the resulting pauses, the sensuality that arises from these circumstances, is what is of interest to HALBER POGO.“
